Area Guide: Mijas

Mijas

Mijas Costa is the coastal area of Mijas Municipality, stretching from Las Lagunas on the outskirts of Fuengirola to Calahonda.

Calahonda and Riviera del Sol with Miraflores are sought after destinations for both holiday makers and for permanent living. You have a full range of all facilities here.

From the beach the land climbs quite steeply allowing especially the upper part of Calahonda some of the most spectacular views on the coast.

Both areas are a good mix of all generations, however with families being the predominant group.

Calypso: Calypso is situated between Torrenueva and Miraflores and comprises small bungalow villas on smaller plots, within walking distance of amenities, restaurants. It is a popular community for people on the lookout for a small semi-detached or detached little house within a limited budget.

Torrenueva: Mix of apartments and villas, quite a few are elevated and offering nice sea views. Most properties here are within walking distance of the very nice beach.

La Cala de Mijas: Often known just as La Cala. Within the last 10 years La Cala has grown dramatically from its origins as a quaint white painted fishing village. It has retained much of its original character with its thriving and bustling atmosphere with a wide variety of shops and restaurants, many still providing the traditional cuisine at very realistic prices.

Twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) there is a market on the land behind the Village and this is very much a working market with fresh vegetables and general supplies rather than the more tourist orientated markets to be found in Nueva Andalucia and Estepona.

La Cala has a lovely sandy beach lined with bars and restaurants.

Behind La Cala there has been an extensive amount of developments with a wide variety of property available within walking distance of the Village and beach.

El Faro and Faro de Calaburras are typical Andalucian style urbanizations from the late 60s, consisting mainly of small bungalows on small plots. The area is residential with a few restaurants and supermarket.

To the North of Mijas Costa you have Cerros de Aguila, El Hipódromo with the international Horse Racecourse. Further inland you have Mijas Golf and the surrounding areas, with a mix of newly built complexes of goof quality and luxury villas around the golf course.

Further up, between La Cala Hills and La Mairena, you have one of Europe’s most prestigious golf resorts, La Cala Golf, with its 3 courses with clubhouse facilities, and 5-star Hotel La Cala Golf with spa facilities. Properties on La Cala Golf Resort are a good mix of mainly quality apartment and townhouses, semi-detached villas, including a few, but exclusive villas.
