The New Golden Mile

The New Golden Mile is the name given to the coastal area of the outskirts of Marbella Municipality and Estepona Municipality, between Guadalmina and Estepona.

The area is quite residential, but has gained a steady popularity with holiday makers as well over the last many years, appreciating full service facilities, including a vast variety of exotic restaurants and a number of golf courses.

The area has warmly welcomed the opening of the new underpass under San Pedro de Alcantara in late June, 2012, making access to Marbella Centre and further towards the East easy.

Beachside urbanizations and communities:

Guadalmina Baja and Casasola: Up-market villa urbanization with mainly larger or very large exclusive villas, bordering Guadalmina Golf course.

Atalaya Baja: A mix of townhouses and bungalow villas in an older area down towards the beach.

El Presidente and Hacienda del Sol: El Presidente is elderly, cosy villa urbanization with larger villas and large complex of apartments, bordering the woods down towards the beach, whereas Hacienda del Sol are popular newer developed apartment blocks, within a couple of minutes’ walk from the beach.

Benamara: Elderly urbanization consisting of a mix of apartments and townhouses, very cosy and quaint.

El Barronal del Paraiso: A small villa urbanization with limited number of villas.

El Saladillo: One of the oldest beachside communities on this part of the coast and with a cosy feel to it, mainly consisting of small bungalow villas on smaller plots, together with a few townhouse developments.

Costalita: Costalita is probably one of the best value for money beachside locations on the coast offering a wide choice of quality apartments at 2 minutes from the beach. The community provides 24-h security and is also within walking distance to local supermarkets and quite a few restaurants.

Albayalde: Older smaller urbanization with mainly townhouses, most in an Andalucian style.

Park Beach: Area of quality apartments down towards the beach.

Guadalmansa: Mainly highly exclusive developments of luxury, quality apartments in developments like Torre and Cabo Bermejo

The rest of the beachside down toward Estepona are all apartments in various sought after developments like El Velerin, Dominion Beach, Mar Azul, La Alcazaba Beach.

Mountainside urbanizations and communities:

Guadalmina Alta: A popular area around the golf course, a good mix of quality apartments, townhouses and villas. Guadalmina Alta has its own shopping center with a variety of shops, restaurants and cafés, amenities.

Monte Biarritz and Diana Park: Mix of townhouses and villas within easy access of all facilities, including restaurants, cafés and bars in Diana Park

El Pilar and El Paraiso are consisting of mainly villas and a limited number of apartments. Especially El Paraiso hosts many large villas on large plots around the golf course, in El Paraiso Alto the majority even offering excellent sea views.

El Pilar and El Paraiso Medio offer a full range of facilities along the shopping arcades along the coastal road (A7).

Bel-Air: Popular newer built area with a mix of villas, apartments and townhouses.

Los Flamingos: Up-market urbanization hosting 3 golf courses and 5-star Hotel Villa Padierna, and a large selection of quality apartments in newer, exclusive developments. Many of these have stunning views over the golf course and onto sea.

La Cancelada: Typical Spanish village that has maintained its character along with the change of time. You have a choice of eating places here, all at reasonable prices.

Selwo: Hosts the Wildlife Animal Park, including a large number of new developments, including La Resina 9-hole golf course. You can at present get very economic, value for money apartments here.

El Padrón: A mix of rural and urban areas, very green and fertile with many fruit trees. Here you find quite a large number of fincas and large country houses on big plots. The area also hosts the Estepona Equestrian Centre.

Selwo Wildlife and Adventure Park is a major tourist attraction well worth visiting to spot a variety of wildlife such as tigers, lions, jaguars and rhinos to name a few. 5-star Hotel Villa Padierna in Los Flamingos, 5-star Hotel Kempinsky next to Laguna Village. Bali-style El Campanario Country Club with all modern facilities such as indoor heated pool, gym, tennis, etc.
